William Maher (/ma:r/; born on January 20, 1956) is an American comedian, producer, writer as well as a political commentator, actor and host of a television show. His HBO political talk show Real Time With Bill Maher (2003 to present) and his late-night show, Politically Incorrect (1993-192002), are popular. In 2022, Maher started the podcast The Club Random.Maher is well-known for his satire of politics and sociopolitical commentary. Maher tackles a wide range of subjects, like religious beliefs, political correctness as well as the mass media. His skepticism about religion formed the basis of the documentary film he made in 2008 Religulous. Maher is a vocal advocate for the rights of animals and has been on the PETA board since 1997. Maher is also a member of the advisory board for Project Reason. Maher supports the legalization of cannabis and serves as an advisory board member of NORML.In 2005, Maher ranked at number 38 on Comedy Central's 100 best stand-up comedians all time.
