Dame Elizabeth Rosemond Taylor DBE (February 27th, 1932 - March 23 2012) was a British-American actress. Her career started as a child actor during the 1940s. Taylor was also one of the most famous stars of the old Hollywood film in the 1950s. She then was the highest-paid movie star in the 1960s and remained an iconic public figure throughout her life. In 1999, the American Film Institute declared her the seventh-greatest female screen hero in Classic Hollywood cinema.Born in London to socially prominent American parents, Taylor moved with her family to Los Angeles in 1939. After a year, Taylor made her acting debut with a small role in the Universal Pictures film "There's One Born Every Minute (1942)." The studio then signed her to Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and was a cult teenage star after her role in National Velvet (1944). Her transition to roles for mature actors came in the 1950s, and she starred in the comedy Father of the Bride (1950) and received critical acclaim for her role in the drama A Place in the Sun (1951).
