Joan Blondell, born Rose Joan Bluestein on August 30, 1906, and passed away on December 25 1979. She was an American actress who worked in television and film for 50 years. When she won the beauty pageant her first film career. She became a Pre-Code actress at Warner Bros. Pictures, acting in sexy, wisecracking roles in over 100 films and TV productions. Blondell was the most active on film in the 1930s and early 1940s. During the same period, she co-starred with Glenda Farrell, a coworker and friend of hers in nine movies. Blondell continued acting in films and on television for the remainder of her life, often in smaller, minor roles. For her performance in The Blue Veil (1951), she was nominated to the Academy Award as Best Supporting Actress. Blondell, who was performing in Opening Night (1977) at the end of her life was nominated for the Golden Globe as Best Supporting Actress. Blondell was in two more films, the blockbuster musical Grease (1978) and Franco Zeffirelli's The Champ (1979), that was released just prior to her passing away from leukemia.
