Mira Katherine Sorvino (/'mi:r@ so:r'vi:noU/; born September 28 the 28th of September, 1967) is an American actress. Her performance in Woody Allen’s Mighty Aphrodite (1995) won her the Academy Award and Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress. In recognition of her work on television she was nominated for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie for her performance as Marilyn Monroe in Norma Jean & Marilyn (1996), and twice nominated for an award, the Golden Globe for Best Actress - Miniseries or Television Film, again for her performance as Marilyn Monroe and her leading part in Human Trafficking (2005).When the 1993 film Amongst Friends entered preproduction, she was hired as the third assistant director. She was then elevated to casting director, later to assistant producer, and then offered a leading role.
