Dana Elaine Owens (born March 18, 1970) is known as Queen Latifah, is a popular American actor, rapper and performer. She was born in Newark, New Jersey. In 1989, she signed with Tommy Boy Records and released her debut album All Hail the Queen, that included the smash hit song "Ladies First". Nature of a Sista' (1991) was her second album and the last under Tommy Boy Records.Latifah was a character on the show Khadijah James in the Fox sitcom Living Single from 1993 to 1998. The third album she released, Black Reign (1993) was the first solo female rapper that received a gold certification by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA),[2which led to the hit song "U.N.I.T.Y. " that was instrumental in raising awareness of gender-based violence and the objectification of Black female sexuality.The single made it to the top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100, and received the Grammy Award. The fourth album of hers Order in the Court was released by Motown Records on June 16, 1998. She starred in the character in the movie the character Set it Off (1996).
